Brand new for 2019, the Short Stay Show is a one-day conference taking place at the ExCel London on 14th March 2019. It’s aimed at owners, managers and investors of short-term accommodation who are looking to start up and scale up their short stay accommodation businesses.

With over 1000 attendees, 50 exhibitors, more than 40 speakers across 3 stages, there is so much to see and learn at the show. The Short Stay Show is the only event specifically designed for the fast-moving short-term accommodation industry. It’s a great way to discover future trends and hot topics, industry policy updates and the potential impact of Brexit. It’s also a wonderful networking opportunity.

The speaker line-up for the main conference includes some of our industry’s most in-demand thinkers and influencers. There’s also a busy free programme running throughout the day too, taking place on the Start Up and Scale Up stages. Follow our top five tips to get the most from attending the Short Stay Show.

Step 1: Do your homework

To get the most of out of the show, it really pays to do some planning beforehand. Check out the show programme, and put together a list of the speakers and sessions that appeal most to you. Don’t just go for the biggest names, think about what your accommodation business would particularly benefit from right now, and look for speakers and sessions that align to those needs. If one session or speaker particularly interests you, do a bit of digging and background research to find out whether it’s going to be right for you.

Step 2: Follow the event social media feeds

As well as their main website, the Short Stay Show team shares useful content across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Make sure you follow each of these feeds and keep an eye out for updates about speakers, exhibitors, free resources and special offers in the run-up to the event.

It’s also a good idea to follow some of the biggest names (speakers and suppliers) on their own social media channels. Not only will you learn more, but you’ll also get great commentary on what’s going on and who is saying what. Looking at the social media output after the day itself is a great way to get a feel for the most important issues and questions that were raised.

Step 3: Plan your day

Plan your day out, building in time to see your top picks from the main speaker programme and the Start-Up and Scale Up stages too. Ensure you make time to walk around the marketplace area. As part of your pre-event planning, identify in advance any suppliers you want to chat to. Many of them may let you book a specific appointment slot in advance, so get in touch with any exhibitors directly and arrange appointments. Step 4: Network with other attendees

At the show, don’t be afraid to network and talk to people. This is a fantastic way to learn and broaden your network at the same time. Chat to other delegates and find out what they thought about the sessions they’ve attended. What are their main takeaways from the event? Ask the speakers questions (if there is an opportunity to do so without interrupting!), and introduce yourself afterwards if you are interested in having a follow-up conversation.

Take plenty of business cards and follow-up with the people you have met after the event in over. There is a dedicated networking area at the conference, and there will be a networking session at the end of the day, so take advantage of this to expand your network.

Step 5: Don’t be afraid to change sessions

Sometimes speakers simply don’t deliver what you were hoping for. It’s totally OK to leave a session that isn’t working for you. If you are unsure about a particular session, have a back-up option already noted that you can switch to if you need to.
